Sometimes as Mothers, we tend to hear and say the phrase “where did all the time go?” We gaze upon our not-so-little one’s faces and notice cheek bones replacing squishy baby cheeks, or look over in surprise seeing how tall our (once little) child is getting. Yet time marches on, our little kids grow up into young adults, and their childhood can feel as vibrant, amazing, and fleeting as a bright firework in the summer sky. So when a Momma asks me to photograph her kids, I think I tend to hold this truth close to my heart. They are only young once, after all, and I am so very honored to capture this moment in time for the family. One such Mom decided to invest in portraits for her two young children Liam and Mila just as they were starting their summer vacation.
Liam “the lighting bolt” is starting his second year with the Dayton Stealth Hockey Team. Don’t let his 7 years of age fool you – this kid is an intense intellectual that takes his play seriously. When he’s not putting biscuits in the breadbasket you might find him swimming or playing pokemon. Mila is 5 and blessed with the sweet AND the sassy (full disclosure, I only saw the sweet). She won 1st place at her figure skater competition recently and it seems she attributes this to her requested “rainbow dress” and her musical selection – Katy Perry’s Roar. I was surprised to hear that she is enrolling in “ninja class” (that’s a thing??) and she will be having a dance recital soon with her school.
I loved hearing that they enjoy spending time together, whether riding bikes and making up games with the neighborhood kids, going to the pool, or riding rides at Kings Island. Liz, I hope you are able to enjoy their summer vacation as much as they will. After all, childhood seems to go by so fast sometimes. And like Mila’s girl Katy says,
‘Cause baby you’re a firework
Come on show ’em what your worth
Make ’em go “Oh, oh, oh!”
As you shoot across the sky-y-y
